I wonder if anyone will be able to guess who this is without looking at the tags. =P
Honey here is still a WIP, but I might as well upload what I got.
I ref’d Witherspoon and a picture of young woman to get her chin and cheek right. It was hard to find a happy medium. =P
I may down-size her eyes a little, but maybe they’re fine as they are. *shrug*
Oops, almost forgot to upload Tully’s portrait without the other images. =P
I may edit this later and add a bit of her background, personality, and all that jazz.
So, after posting my improvement image, I checked out the WoW fanart thread to see if it was still dead, and, surprisingly, it wasn’t. Funny enough, one of the new posts was “Rachels Draeneis [sic] are ugly as fuck to me. :S”
I’m starting to get the sneaking suspicion that the reason why these creeps run their mouths is because the majority of my Draenei are people of colour, and mmochamp is incredibly racist (like, really, really, really racist). Also, the majority of Draenei art is pretty much in line with the in-game model, and, as I’m sure most of us know, people generally hate change.
Shakin’ my head man, shakin’ my head.
Hi there! I don’t really know you at all so you can just take this bit of 2cents how ever you like.
I looked through all the pages of your art tag, and to be blunt, much of your art of Draenei simply doesn’t look the part. Not even talking about the africanized facial features or the lack of hypersexualization Blizzard is known for, but they lack some of the features that are very standard elements to what people recognize them for, like the head crests, neck tendrils, or bright/glowing eyes.
They don’t look like they’d be part of the setting’s species. They look like blue tieflings.(the generic halfdemons from D&D) From what I can tell without looking too deep into your blog, you seem to be taking them in some headcannon direction, which is fine. However, I might recommend just detaching them from the Warcraft setting altogether in that case.
That is kinda the point of my Draenei; to look different enough, but still hold certain traits. I’m gonna try to explain my headcanon in as few words as possible;
I split them into two groups, Northerners and Southerners. The Northerner’s are relatively short (between 5-6 ft.), tend to be lighter skinned and brightly patterned, and their sensory organs (like nudibranch rhinophores) are located in their horns and plating. They lead a pretty peaceful, hedonistic, but still hardworking life. Northerners make up the bulk of my characters, hence no tendrils to be found.
Southerners are tall (6-9 ft.), dark skinned, and their horns are for fighting and display, so their ‘rhinophores’ are in inside their tendrils for safe-keeping. They’re war-like and have a thirst for weapon development.
No matter what, many things are going to look alike and you can’t really help it. I’ve seen people who have compared the Blizz Draenei to Tieflings and Qunari, for example.
The reason I stayed away from glowing eyes, opting for bright colours and goat/cephalopod pupils instead, was because that trope is so over-used it isn’t funny.
Also, I made an effort for their crests/horns/plating to not look like the in-game stuff, since enough people copy the actual models.
And on top of all this, everyone draws their Draenei differently. I’ve seen Draenei with black/brown horns, Draenei with actually ‘backwards’ legs (but I have a feeling that may be accidental), Draenei with textured horns, Draenei without the tendrils (usually female), Draenei with horse hooves, Draenei with ‘feet’ hooves, Draenei with stump tails, long tails, thick tails, whip tails, and so on and so forth.
I find it funny, though, that you went through my art tag and didn’t notice that my characters are no longer in the WoWverse, seeing as the majority of the community and company have turned into a complete turn off.

I’ve been having that suspicion a while now <.<
Wait, so you actually have seen my stuff?
I don’t know how to react to the fact that more and more of the artists I’ve been following for the past couple of years know I exist and follow me back.
I am so awkward and giddy omg.
We are this creepy collective conscious. Its real creepy, but yes :D (Personally, I’m slow to make connections sometimes, and a lot of times I think I’m following someone, but I realize much later then I’m not, and im seeing reblogs, then I feel bad and go on their blog and obsesses with some coffee).
You do some great stuff, and dont let the tards over at MMOChamps troll you. Their idea of art is the mindless, drooling, pinupish “offical release” art. You know, the stuff that you cant tell apart from the flood of other boring as shit, unemotional, non-story-telling “offical release” pin up art, and all the artists do.. exactly… the same thing. Not to trivialize what they do, what they do is probably harder then what we do, because they HAVE to match a style. Or they dont get paid.
Theres a few styles: Alex Garner Rip-offs, Genzo-man Rip-offs and Joe Madureria Rip-offs (and a few very small collection of other artists, who in fact we’re pretty original). 97% of the population of gamers cant even comprehend art outside of that. They literally have no idea that art is a personal thing, and a personal style, because all the art thats shoved down their throats looks EXACTLY THE SAME.
And when you dont match that stuff, you get shit on or get generally ignored. I’m in that boat too along with quite a few other people who are really great artists who have emotion and feeling in their work and who are mildly popular in a small group and who are completely ignored by the gaming community.

I am so much like that, and sometimes I’m just too damn scared to talk to other people. I’m always afraid of being a bother. lol
Thank you. :)
At first it was kinda hard to ignore the bullshit because it came it torrents, but now I don’t give a shit like I used to. It’s so gross, though, that some people go around twisting an artist’s happiness and pride, and spew that they’re arrogant and over-confident.
If you feel nervous, sad, or frustrated with your art, then people get angry and tell you to buck up. If you’re proud and happy with your art, then people tell you you’re conceited.
And then you have the problem of people wanting you to be ~*creative*~ and ~*different*~, but, as you said, if you don’t fit with the style, you get shit on.
It’s a ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ kinda situation. :/
“Not to trivialize what they do, what they do is probably harder then what we do, because they HAVE to match a style. Or they dont get paid.”
Yeah, I can’t imagine doing art for a video game company anymore, not even TCG art or other smaller projects. They cage these artists. Like, sure, they make their own concepts but then they have to get through the art director, who most likely has a very narrow view of what successful design is. :/
Military mom ‘proud’ of breast-feeding in uniform, despite criticism
National pride, or disgrace? A photo gone viral of two servicewomen breast-feeding their children while in uniform has added a new layer to the debate over nursing in public. If you think this is a “disgrace”, just quit following me now.
^^^
As others have pointed out, there are a few regs they’re breaking in regards to uniforms. As I have plenty of respect for individual servicemembers, but not much for the U.S. military as an organization, this is me not particularly caring that they’re breaking a few regs in regards to uniforms.
I do not understand how people can say this is disgraceful. I don’t get it.
Oh, and of course people are comparing this to “defecating” and urinating.” Never heard that one before. *rolls eyes*
Do people not understand the difference between food and waste?
Peace. Hopefully, by now you know that I’m working on a fundraiser to help secure a space for my massage therapy practice Wild Seed Wellness at the Living Room Project in West Oakland. We still need to raise about $251 by JUNE 2 (3 days away!) to reach our goal of $3500. Moving to this space…

DIFFERENT!??? I HATE DIFFERENT!!!
No, I adore your dranei and the different body types you portray. And hhhnnghgh the way you painted the skin tones on the latest pic came out so beautiful.
And unfortunately, that type of hatred plagues quite a few fandoms. :s
Eeeee thank you. :D
I’m quite happy to be doing my own thing now. I still generally like WoW, and probably will continue to, but the community in game and online is so ew. It was never perfect (what community is?) but it feels way worse than ever.
